The subject of the biography is usually a person who has played a key role in circumstances that had an impact on the society, or who has come up with innovative ideas or proposals which are subsequently documented in some method. Barbara Heck, on the other hand, left no written statements or letters. The proof of items as her date of marriage, is only secondary. In the majority of her life as an adult it is not possible to find primary sources that allow us to reconstruct her intentions and actions. She is still a very significant figure at the start of Methodism. In this case, the job of the biographer is to provide an account of and explanation for the story and identify if there is a real person hidden within the myth.

A report by the Methodist historian Abel Stevens wrote in 1866. Barbara Heck's modest name has now been firmly placed first on the listing of women who been a major contributor to the life of the church in New World history. This has been because of the rise of Methodism in the United States. Her accomplishments are based more on the significance of the cause that she has been involved in than on her personal lives. Barbara Heck played a lucky part in the founding of Methodism, both in the United States and Canada. She is famous for her way in which successful groups and organizations tend to celebrate their beginnings.
